Stoffregen publishes in Journal of Experimental Psychology Human Perception & Performance

Tom Stoffregen, PhD, professor of perceptual-motor control and learning in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Affordance Perception-Action Laboratory (APAL), was published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology Human Perception & Performance, for his work on the study, entitled, Perception of higher-order affordances for kicking in soccer. The research focused on the perception and higher-order affordances of kicking ability within soccer, and how multiple affordances relate to each other. This study supports a theoretical perspective which claims that players have direct perceptual awareness of their own physical abilities. One of the main points of the study was that perception, rather than mental processing, may provide immediate and accurate information about a player’s options within the game.
